My name is Mike Scherer and I am the author and creator of MikeScherer.net.
The reason I wrote this Blog was to expand my Business Opportunities through the use of the Internet. I have always been self employed, but never really achieved the success that would secure my future and look after my family in such a way that I gives me complete control of my life.
That’s why I started my own Internet business and that is why I created this profile. I want to meet, network, and give back to other newbie entrepreneurs who are in the same situation just like I was. Hopefully my story can help and inspire you to discover a better alternative just like I did when I started working from home, being my own boss and making money online. Anyway, before we get into all that…let me tell you a bit about myself…..
I own two successful accommodation businesses with my wife Vickie, and now of course my online business, which I simply call “My Online Business System”. Our Motel won the top award for the Supreme Host of the Year for two years running (We’re not allowed to enter anymore). The other accommodation business is a Serviced Apartment business, a strange cross between a hotel and a motel. Sometimes we refer to it as a Hotel of Apartments.
Over the years I have learned the techniques of attraction marketing in the accommodation industry. It is very competitive and in this country, people “vote with their feet” meaning that if they don’t like what you have offer, they walk away and go somewhere else.
The key thing to learn is this: GIVE YOUR CUSTOMERS WHAT THEY WANT, NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO SELL THEM. You may have heard this dozens of times but it is always true!
The accommodation business is a classic example to see this in action, guests walk in to your property and if they don’t like you, they walk out. For example, my properties are positioned at each end of our target market. The motel is 40 years old and old-fashioned in a resort town with dozens of new up-market properties on offer. I won the award for the best Motel in the country not because I owned the best building, but because I provided the best guest experience and service. The Serviced Apartments are a 5-Star property, similar to a hotel but operating like a motel. It is positioned at the top end of the market but the same principles apply. If guests don’t like me, then it doesn’t matter how good the building and the rooms are, they will not come back.
I live in New Zealand at a place called Mount Maunganui. We have miles and miles of white sandy beaches stretch as far as the eye can see, and it is one of the best beach holiday locations in all of New Zealand. It is still relatively unspoilt and people invest millions of dollars into property here just to own their little slice of paradise.
I am married to Vickie and we have 5 children between us. Thank goodness there are only 2 living at home. The Eldest, Matthew is a Pilot First Officer flying Boeing 777 airliners, Nicola is married, Kirsty is a Beauty Therapist, and Sam is still at school. My other son, Nigel, is severely mentally and physically disabled requiring 24 hour care. He has the mental capacity of a two year old, is blind, incontinent and can not walk or talk. He is not able to feed himself or wash or anything so at 20 years old can be quite a handful!
After finishing school I graduated as a Civil Engineer, but in 1980 I began Dairy Farming. This was my first business and dairy farming in New Zealand during the early 80’s was a dream come true. NZ was, and still is, one of the largest dairy exporting nations in the world and during that period profits kept increasing year after year without any input from me. I purchased the farm from my family and was worth $1 million by the time I was 30. The Dairy Industry in New Zealand is a complete production and marketing system, “From the cow to the plate” anywhere in the world. The SYSTEM made the money. As a farmer I was simply the producer of the raw material. Because the system was owned by a cooperative of the farmers, I also got my share of the total earnings. However, the system relied on world commodity market prices over which it had no control. The inevitable crash happened in 1984 and after struggling for a further 15 years, my wife left me, I had to sell the farm and I was broke. I had 3 children to care for including the disabled one and I was miserable. I tried and failed in some business dealings with what little money I could muster, but nothing worked.
I learned a very big lesson back then, NEVER put your fate in the hands of anyone else.
I was down and out, broke, divorced and unemployed. It was time to do something about it. I had re-married and helped my new wife battle cancer. I helped my children establish careers and eventually made my way back to owning 2 businesses and employing 6 people.
I made some big mistakes though, I still hadn’t got the idea of successful marketing. I was still working 7 days a week, 16 hours a day and not making much money. I was self-employed, but worse off than if I had a regular job. I had a disabled son to care for and now my wife’s cancer had come back and she was very sick again.
I wanted to have more time to spend with my wife and son. They needed me to be there for them. I wanted to enjoy my growing family and have some time for myself. I had given up my love of flying and could only follow my eldest son’s career and hear how great his life as a professional pilot was going. I wanted to fly again.
Like many people who find themselves in a desperate situation, I turned to the Internet for a solution. After many false starts with scammers and rip-offs, I found my primary Internet Business Opportunity.
So began my internet marketing education. I learned how to market my business properly and how to make money. I learned that there are many ways to make money online, but only one way to market. Marketing is not selling. I learned that I didn’t need to make all the same mistakes all Internet marketers make because the system my business uses is tried and true. All the mistakes had been made already. All I had to do was follow the system. I was so excited, here was a tailor made solution.
Everything changed. What I have learned about marketing now has given me the ability and confidence to be a success in my businesses, get myself and my family out of debt and be able to enjoy life again. My wife’s cancer was successfully treated and I have found wonderful people to help look after my son. I now enjoy flying whenever I want, safe in the knowledge that I will never need to worry about money again with my Online Business working for me. If there is a secret to online marketing it is this:
“Systems Work Where People Fail”.
My system generates money in order for me to live the life I want to live. I am in control.

I am not interested in meeting lazy people or anyone else without a vision and passion for life. Life is for living not for wasting time looking for the next big thing or waiting for someone else to make things right again. Any business is hard work, especially in the early stages, but hey, the rewards are incredible and well worth the effort. Let’s face it, you’re a long time “looking at the lid”, you only get one shot at life. I don’t want to meet anyone just wanting to make money or to get a Ferrari. I don’t want to meet people focused solely on getting rich quick. I do want to meet fellow online network marketers and people genuinely wanting to have a better life and help others to achieve their dreams. I want to teach others to find their passions and to define their goals.
